MARIETTA, GA. — The Marietta Police Athletic League is reaching out to the community and local businesses to support the 2020 Marietta Shamrock Shuffle that will be held Saturday, March 14 at Marietta Square in Marietta, Ga. The annual 5k race occurs on the weekend of or closest to St. Patrick Day, and proceeds go to the PAL program that includes athletic and after-school programs, such as track and field, cross-country running, boxing, basketball, martial art classes, dance and more. The program serves over 400 youth each year. The Marietta Shamrock Shuffle 5k is the primary funding source for the PAL program. The goal is to generate community support and encourage involvement for the ongoing efforts of the PAL organization for years to come.

“We want to give back to the community through the successful growth of the annual event,” said Christina Rudes, who joined the Marietta PAL Board of Directors in 2019 and became chair of the event this year.

“The Marietta Shamrock Shuffle has become one of the board’s key fundraising efforts,” Rudes added. “This year, we’ve assembled a team of local business leaders to help coordinate and promote the race and with the help of Kathy Winiarczyk of Credit Union of Georgia and Sean Rayborn of E Dennis Air Conditioning & Heating, we have engaged the local business community and schools.”

The board is encouraging local businesses and schools to create teams for the race. Come out and participate in the event and spend time enjoying the atmosphere on the square.

The Marietta Shamrock Shuffle 5k raised $45,000 in 2019 and hosted 400 runners. This year the PAL organization would like to increase that goal and raise over $60,000 so the PAL program can continue its incredible work in 2020 and beyond.
