Like many who move to the First Coast, Ann Miller’s journey began with the ocean. Although her childhood dreams of a career beneath the waves have long since passed for this Navy Brat, her hope for a “Brighter” business will launch in Clay County next week.


The 53-year-old insurance pro will set sail on Brightway, The Ann Miller Agency in Orange Park November 7. Directly serving Clay, Duval, St. John’s and Nassau Counties, Miller will be bringing more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry to their new Brightway Insurance franchise.

 

“After my father served several years in the U.S. Navy, we made the move from South Florida to Jacksonville to be closer to family,” Miller said. “Our family has always loved the sand and the surf. Although, as a child, I hoped to be a marine biologist one day, my dreams and my family took me in a new direction. Our community near the beach and our love for the water have made this new voyage something special for all of us.” With Miller holding certifications in Insurance and Finance from Florida State College at Jacksonville, building this new business she is so enthusiastic about is a tribute to the example their family set long ago.

“After serving in the Navy, my dad continued to serve as civilian support for Jacksonville NAS working in their wastewater division,” Miller said. “He stayed on until he retired just a few years ago. My parents raised their family doing work they were passionate about in the neighborhood they loved. I really feel like this new business is a tribute to them.” Miller’s mother, Lorraine Maharaj, still lives in Jacksonville. Her son, Scott, also has a passion for the water. Serving as a Boat Captain for Boston Whaler, he performs sea trials on new vessels shortly after production. Her daughter, Kristine, is following in her mom’s footsteps working as an agent in the insurance industry.

Miller’s father, John Murphy, was buried at sea after passing away in 2020. She now shares her love of beach life, as well as travel and all things Disney, with her five grandchildren. “I was as young as my grandkids when I had my first real encounter with aquatic life during a trip to Sea World in Orlando,” Miller added. “No, I didn’t become a marine biologist. But, I know just how important any given day can be when it comes to dreams. I hope something we do with our Brightway agency will spark a dream in them one day, too.” Millers’ fiancé, Curtis, as well as others in the family, have played critical roles in helping make her dream come true a reality.
