From Ghana to the U.S.: American Dream Soaring High in Prosper - Texas Businessman, Family Opening Brightway Agency

From enjoying Texas BBQ to cheering for college football, Celina resident Carlos Taylor is a true “Texan.” And next week, the Ghanian-born businessman will see his American Dream come true as he launches Brightway, The Taylor Family Agency in Prosper.

Taylor was only 22 years old when he first made the move from the other side of the globe to put down roots with his two brothers and his parents stateside. Now, 17 years later, the Lone Star State entrepreneur is opening his new office Monday.

More than two decades ago, Carlos’ parents made their way to the United States from their West African homeland. They originally made the trek to America to care for an older brother who had received a cancer diagnosis.

Taylor, 39, who would eventually join his family in the U.S. in 2005, is now one of more than 200,000 American citizens born in Ghana. “This is a long-awaited goal I’ve had for me and my family,” Taylor said of the opening of his Collin County business.

“Being able to hand this dream over to my family, my children, one day is a big factor in my decision to open our location,” Taylor added.

“It’s never too early to get them dreaming. Right now, Austin, 8, wants to be a chef and Leslie, 5, says she wants to be a gymnast. When I asked her why she said it was because she wanted to appear on Google.”

Searching for those big dreams has inspired Taylor since his school days back in Ghana when he once dreamt of being a soccer player. “And it’s not called football,” Taylor stated. “Football is what we play in Texas.” Taylor and his wife, Veronica (Oduro) Taylor, have worked in the insurance industry since 2014.
