It’s been a decade since 19-year-old Michael Pagan’s family first moved to the United States from Costa Rica. Today, the recent Haines City High School graduate is doing his part to help serve those in need in his Poinciana community.
Pagan has officially opened Brightway, The Pagan Family Agency insurance office this past month. Located in the Poinciana Access Community Center, Pagan is following in his father’s footsteps. Miguel Pagan provides health insurance options at the Access Center, while Michael’s agency is offering property and casualty coverage through Brightway Insurance.
A recent study shows that those born outside of the U.S. are 80 percent more likely to open their own business in the U.S. More than 200 of the companies appearing in the 2022 Fortune 500 list of America’s most profitable companies were founded by immigrants or their children.
“When we first came to the states, we only spoke Spanish,” Pagan said. “You quickly realize you are going to need some help making the move from another country a successful one. The Access Center is a place that helps with so much for the people in Poinciana.” Currently, more than 50 percent of the Poinciana population is Hispanic.
The Poinciana Access Community Center is a facility developed in alliance with the Florida Department of Children and Family to provide care options for those in need of care and protection.
