As the nation pauses next Friday to honor those who have served our country, one Twinsburg family will celebrate by showcasing one freedom they personally helped earn through the generations. U.S. Army National Guard veteran Bill Marable and his wife, Cheryl, will open their very own business when they launch Brightway, The Marable Agency insurance office in Twinsburg Monday.

An E-4 Specialist in the Ohio National Guard from 1984-92, Marable served as a medic during the time of Operation Desert Storm. “We were ready. But, fortunately, we were never activated,” Marable said. “Serving in the Guard was a special time for me and for my family.” Marable’s father, Robert, served four years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 1950s. “Serving our country was definitely something he handed down to me, to all of us.”

But it wasn’t just the pride that comes from protecting their country that was passed down from father to son. It was what that service helped provide them; the right to pursue the American Dream in opening their new Brightway office.

After his father’s days in uniform passed, when Bill was just a few months old, the family moved from South Georgia to Northeast Ohio for an opportunity of a lifetime at the now-defunct Twinsburg Chrysler Stamping Plant. A stamping press operator by trade, Robert would work for the auto giant for more than thirty years. It would be in retirement that Bill’s parents would finally open their own businesses. Named after the owners, the Ro’mae Mini Mart and Ro’mae Total Beauty Salon (Robert and Mae) on Warrensville Center Road in Maple Heights are still in business today. “My dad helped manage the businesses until he passed two years ago. And my mom, Mae, is now 82 and still loves to run her beauty shop,” Marable said. “Being able to do business is a freedom we will never take advantage of; bringing us all a sense of pride.”

Today, Bill continues to follow in his father’s footsteps working as an engineer and an entrepreneur. Although he has worked as an electrical engineer for a local utility for many years, it’s his experience selling life insurance for more than a decade that really pushed him to become a Brightway Insurance franchisee. “Finally owning our own shop is a dream come true,” Marable said. “Being a business owner in this same town we’ve worked, lived and played in for decades means the world to us.” Nearly 20,000 people call this Midwest town, “home.” Every year, the Twinsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars organize the hanging of pole banners throughout the town; each displaying a local veteran who has served, or is currently serving, in the military.

Bill holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical and computer engineering from Ohio University in Athens. He and Cheryl have been married for 27 years and live in Twinsburg along with their children, Sean, 26, Danielle, 22 and Jasmine, 20.

Brightway, The Marable Agency offers customized Home, Flood, Auto, Boat, Condo, Renters, Personal Articles, RV, Motorcycle, Umbrella, and Life insurance policies from numerous insurance companies.
