A lifelong educator in the Florida business scene will be doing her part to “insure” the future in Greater Tampa beginning next week. Lutz resident Jessica Spivey will open the doors on the new Brightway, The Spivey Agency insurance office Monday.

“I’ve always enjoyed being a teacher,” Spivey said. “Helping people know what’s important when it comes to protecting what matters most to them holds a special place in my heart.”

From teaching financial literacy to high school students in Pasco County Schools to coordinating and administrating the financial side of business across the region, Spivey has taught the importance of being financially sound throughout her life.

Spivey feels her career path to this point has truly paved the way for this new Pasco County venture.

“Teaching those fiscally responsible lessons to our children really helped put me in my element,” Spivey added. “Getting to instruct our kids on things such as how to budget, balance a checkbook and even buy a car really spoke to me. I also spent several years handling the administrative side of a family business that specialized in financial planning and insurance coverage. Teaching people how to protect themselves is a passion for me.”

Holding a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of South Florida, the 2003 Durant High School alum is excited about opening her Wesley Chapel agency next week.

“We had our own insurance-related incident when burglars broke into our home six years ago,” Spivey said. “They broke in through our daughter’s room. Fortunately, we weren’t home at the time. Regardless, you immediately worry about your family’s safety at a time like that. Our insurance coverage helped clean up the damage. But you are left to help your family feel as safe as possible in the future.”
Spivey’s daughter, just four at the time, never knew about the break-in because Spivey and her husband worked hard to make sure she was protected and never knew what happened. “We cleaned up the broken glass and made sure she couldn’t tell anything was different about her room,” Spivey said.

A cause with a similar mission in protecting our children is one that Spivey and her new agency is hoping to contribute to in the coming year. Through her church, Spivey has joined fellow parishioners in contributing to Loft 181. The Hillsborough County charity is a clothing store for teenage girls in foster care.

“It’s a cause that provides these young girls, free of charge, with a clothing boutique that helps them feel loved and empowered,” Spivey added. “With me opening a new business that helps protect our neighbors and their families, I can’t imagine a better charity to find ways to work with.” Learn more about Loft 181 at Loft181.com.

Originally from South Carolina, Spivey’s family moved to the Sunshine State 25 years ago. Today, Spivey and her husband, David, live in Lutz with their three children.
