Bexar Biz Duo Expands Family Footprint McKinneys - Opening Brightway Agency Monday

A Bexar County couple is expanding their family business footprint next week with the launch of Brightway, The McKinney Agency.

Helotes, Texas residents Jim and Jessica McKinney open the doors on their new insurance franchise Monday. With more than twenty-five years of finance and mortgage industry experience, the business duo is growing a family legacy that spans two states and is generations in the making.

Raised in Central Florida, Jim, 47, and Jessica 41, learned about the business world with their own eyes. Jim’s father owned and operated his own mortgage company in Orlando while Jessica’s stepfather owned and operated his own automotive repair and recovery business in Ocala. “Getting to work with him before he passed to learn the ‘business of doing business’ really set the stage for all of this,” Jim said.

A corporate reorganization with Jim’s long-time mortgage industry employer in 2018 led to their relocation to the Lone Star State. From finance to insurance to mortgage underwriting, Jim has two decades of experience as a cornerstone for their new agency. With previous mortgage processing experience, Jessica later joined Jim handling processing for his father’s mortgage company.

Married for 20 years, Jim and Jessica have one daughter, Selah. “Although she is considering college programs within the medical field, maybe she’ll be taking a look at business, too,” Jim said.

Whatever their dreams, the family has always been their focus. “When I was a kid, I had this idea my dad and I could run a garbage truck business together,” Jim quipped. “He could drive the truck and I could hang off the back as we did our runs each day. It didn’t matter what we were going to do, as long as we did it together.”
