Hurricane Guide:
Coverage & Service
What to Check Today
Do you have flood insurance?
Most homeowners policies do not
cover flooding.
Know the timelines
Flood insurance often has a 30-day waiting period. (Some private flood insurance partners have shorter-waiting periods before you can purchase a new policy.) And once a storm is named, coverage changes for all types of policies are paused and new policies cannot be purchased.
Review your deductibles
Hurricane deductibles may differ from your standard ones—know what they are before the winds pick up. In many cases, hurricane deductibles cannot be changed mid-term.
Understand what your policy excludes
Common gaps include food spoilage, seawall damage, and fallen trees that don’t hit structures. (See our FAQ section for more.)

Your Insurance Company
Is the best place to file a claim after a storm.
Some insurance providers offer fast, mobile-friendly tools to report damage, upload photos, and track status.
You can find your carrier’s name, policy number, and contact info anytime in myBrightway.
Tip: Download your insurance company’s mobile app now—before the storm. It’s the fastest, most reliable way to file a claim.
Your Brightway Service Team
Can help with policy questions, like what coverages your policy includes, when it renews, policy cost, changes to your policy, etc. On myBrightway you can see many of your policy details. Plus, the fastest way to get policy questions resolved is on myBrightway via our new chat feature. You can chat a Service Advisor from 8am-5:30pm ET, Monday-Friday.
Your Local Brightway Agent
Helps you find and purchase the right policies, from different insurance companies, to protect what matters. Please remember, your local agent might be preparing their home and belongings before a storm.
Note: There are restrictions to policy changes during a “named storm moratorium” implemented by insurance carriers we do business with.
