From fine wines to spring-fed swimming holes, Wimberely, Texas is known for having the best of many things. For one Hays County resident, her latest venture is a true reflection of the eclectic style the region is known for. This Monday, Sue Speed will come full circle as she opens Brightway, The Sue Speed insurance agency here in the Texas Triangle.

From her career in real estate management, to her life as a wedding venue pro, to her three pet African Pigmy Goats that help tend her family’s land, Sue Speed has lived a life caring for the people, the land and the culture of the Texas Hill Country.

“Willie, Waylon and Marley help us keep the grass trim on our five acres of land,” Speed said of her pet goats. “They are very inquisitive and will follow you around like puppy dogs. And, of course, their healthy appetites help us keep things beautiful.”

With Speed’s new Brightway location opening to help care for those in the Austin-San Antonio corridor, her own reputation has also been one known for beautifying the most memorable of occasions.

As the owner of Sue Bee Vintage Rentals, Speed has set the scene for Lone Star State moments of matrimony over the years by providing everything from vintage furniture to flatware to floral designs in helping soon-to-be husbands and wives celebrate their big days.

“I love our way of life here and am proud to do what I can to make it special at every time,” Speed added. “It just means so much being a part of it all when those new families get off the ground.”

Speed first landed in the region when her father’s career with the U.S. Air Force took off after flying missions in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. A 1985 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Speed has moved from one extreme to the other. “My high school now has an enrollment almost equal to the total population of Wimberely, our hometown,” Speed said. “I’ve got to see a little of everything when it comes to living your life in the Lone Star State. Just so proud to be able to put my passions to work and find all the ways I can to help our neighbors.”

Speed spent 18 years working in insurance for the medical industry. Married for 36 years, Speed and her husband, Kevin, have two sons, three goats and their lone dog, Canyon.
