(Miami, Fla.) – A South Florida family with business in its blood has John and Aida Egusquiza making their American Dream of starting a business together a reality this month. The Miami couple with deep business roots in the Sunshine State is teaming up to launch Brightway, The Egusquiza Family Agency insurance office.

Through the years, the husband-and-wife team has left their professional mark on the region. John, a defense attorney and real estate attorney, and Aida, an experienced insurance pro and former office manager, will be opening their Brightway location in South Dade August 15.

Married to Aida for 27 years, John worked hand-in-hand with insurance agents for the past 23 years through his practice. A graduate of Miami-Dade College, the University of Florida and the University of Miami Law School, John has plenty of education and experience in serving and protecting his clients.

John and Aida will be opening their new agency in the same building John gained much of his first expertise. That’s where he watched his father run his own real estate business out of for half of a century. Seeing his father’s example helped build John’s own entrepreneurial spirit, making the decision to open a Brightway agency an easy one.

However, he was missing one thing. That’s where Aida comes in.

An insurance pro licensed to write policies in Florida, Aida brings a solid background in the insurance industry. Like John’s dad, her father also helped pave the way for her future, spending a career working in retail and the engineering industry. “We are servants at heart,” Aida said. “Helping protect our neighbors in South Florida feels natural, it feels right. Our families truly set great examples for us.”

This new business venture is one that their next generation may also be headed for. Their twin sons, Jason, a commercial lines insurance sales agent, and John, a student at American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., have their sights set on the future. “They have big dreams, too,” Aida said. “Our Brightway agency is a legacy we hope to leave for them one day. We are a family dedicated to our home and we are incredibly proud of our roots.”

Home is at the heart of their entire family with both sides tracing their roots to Cuba. Aida’s family moved to New Jersey from Cuba when she was only five months old, then moved to Miami by age five. John’s parents also immigrated from Cuba before he was born stateside.

Hard work is at the cornerstone of both of their careers. Aida began as a customer service representative in retail at Sears Roebuck. John earned his first paycheck working as a bag boy at a Winn-Dixie Grocery Store, just five blocks from the site of their new Brightway office. “We’ve always been into customer service,” Aida added. “I’m at a point in my career where I wanted to do something new and truly make a difference. Making this a business that will have a lasting impact on our neighborhood is something that truly speaks at the heart of who our family is.”

The Egusquizas have been lawyers, salespeople, teachers, engineers, customer service representatives and so much more to so many across South Florida. Most of all, who they’ve been throughout their careers has made them a living, breathing part of Miami.
